Oil on canvas
24" x 36"

This piece is a self portrait. It was created as a way to practice painting humans in dynamic poses, as well as practice painting with oil. However, I chose to paint a photo of myself where I was facing away from the camera. This represents the disconnect I feel from myself and my face; by avoiding painting my full face, I remove the connection this painting would have had otherwise to my face, leaving only the connection to the rest of the body.

An oil painting of a person. They are facing away from the camera, and their head is tilted slightly downwards. Part of their face is slightly visible. They are holding a wooden sword, which is being aimed downwards in the direction they are facing.
